Expertise and experience
for the best solution
In a test phase, a production room was equipped with two UVR-4K from sterilAir - an industrial air disinfection system that sustainably removes viruses, bacteria and spores from the air, at a rate of 700m3 of per hour. The device is independently validated and inactivates 90% of Aspergillus spores in the air with each recirculation.
Measurements were taken before and after commissioning of the UVR-4K air sterilisers. The result: "An improved air quality after implementing the UVC air disinfection!" Based on this positive experience gained at the headquarters, Bischofszell Nahrungsmittel AG decided to have sterilAir draw up a detailed hygiene concept for the implementation of UVC disinfection for the production site in Ecublens, Switzerland.
„In a large number of food processing plants, the room air is cooled by evaporators. Many people are not aware that this is a potential source of contamination. The supply air is filtered or sterilised with UVC radiation, but not the room air. Dust particles, product residues and microorganisms are sucked in by the cooling units, can accumulate in the units and multiply. Gradually, a biofilm develops which covers the coils of the evaporators. Due to the large volume flows, components of this biofilm are carried back into the room, where they contaminate air, surfaces and products.“

Professional cooperation
– coordinated hygiene concept
After a thorough on-site inspection, sterilAir AG developed and implemented an air hygiene concept specifically tailored to the production in Ecublens: Around 30 room air coolers of various sizes and designs were equipped with UVC tubes.
The sterilAir E series allows modular retrofitting of UVC disinfection without endangering staff or product safety. This treatment of the cooling coils, a form of surface disinfection, has a positive impact on air quality by counteracting the build-up of biofilm. The installations on the evaporators are selectively supported by eight sterilAir UVR-4K industrial air disinfection systems. The installation of UVC disinfection units at Bischofszell Nahrungsmittel AG was completed in December 2019. sterilAir is available as an advisory contact at all times and takes care of the maintenance of the equipment with the periodic UV tube replacement every 12,000 operating hours.
„We are very satisfied with the results and the service of sterilAir AG: From the first inspection, the proposals and the establishment of the hygiene concept, up to the safety measurements and the functioning solution. It is very important for us to act and not to react, in order to meet and maintain the increasing demands. Considering our high standard of short shelf-life fresh products that we produce, this must be our motivation.“

Cost reduction thanks to sustainable solutions against invisible dangers
The UVC coil disinfection extends the time between cleaning cycles. This saves time, chemical-based cleaning agents and energy.
Another advantage is the efficiency of the evaporators, which are equipped with UVC lamella disinfection: Biofilm, which forms on the cooling coils, increasingly insulates them. At the same time, it narrows the thin openings of the coil packages through which the air flows. The result is a considerable increase in energy consumption to achieve the same cooling performance. If biofilm growth is restricted, the total energy consumption decreases.
„Thanks to the competent and uncomplicated way of working with sterilAir, the whole concept was implemented professionally. The project consulting and support is very pleasant, the exchange open and honest.“
